After stiff opposition from government teacher unions and pressure within the ruling BJP in the state Jal Shakti Minister in Himachal Pradesh government Mahender Singh Thakur has withdrawn his remark made against government school teachers.

In a statement made on Tuesday the minister said, “I have high regards for the teachers; had just made the remark in a lighter vein and had no intention to disregard them.”

The minister two days back in a public meeting at Banjar in Kullu district had said, “The teachers working in government schools made merry during the COVID period when schools were closed now they are demanding to get vaccine on priority claiming to be frontline workers.”

This statement of the minister had evoked strong protest from the government school teachers and their organizations had even threatened to launch protests.

While opposition parties in the state had joined the teachers in condemning the minister’s statement even top leadership of the BJP was in no mood to annoy government teachers with the ruling party gearing up for mission repeat in the next Assembly election in 2022.”

The unions today decided to end their protest of the minister after meeting Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur who also emphasized his great regards for the teachers.

  1. Teachers are not the professionals who are subject matter to be ridiculed in ‘a lighter vein’. They build citizens, societies and nations. Sorry Mr. M.S. Thakur. Very poor.

  2. It’s height of nonsense on the part of Minister, …….. always threatening employees……..

. despite of being COVID positive, do not bear mask and follow the COVID guidelines.
