The proposed visit of General Secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) and MP, Priyanka Gandhi to inaugurate newly constructed government school at Devri in Darang Assembly constituency of Mandi district, had been postponed due to bad weather as per AICC sources.
Prinyanka Gandhi was scheduled to formally visit the school and interact with the students and inaugurate the school on Tuesday. The school building was badly damaged in the flash floods during the monsoon fury in 2023; Piryanka Gandhi during her visit to the area after the flash floods had promised to students that the school building will be rebuilt by the state government soon and she will visit the school.
The AICC leader had made it clear she only intended to interact with the students of Devri School and it will not be a political function.
Education Minister Rohit Thakur had come to Mandi to inaugurate the school building sometime back but the programme was cancelled at the last minute.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had confirmed her visit on Monday saying it will be a private visit and not political function.
BJP leader and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur had taken strong exception to her visit alleging “Lakhs were being spent by the state government to appease Congress leader Priynaka Gandhi.”
