Former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has expressed his serious concern over allegations of “nexus between drug mafia-police and political shelter in the state as per news appearing in a section of media.”
In a release issued at Mandi on Monday, Thakur said, “The drug mafia is destroying the lives of young people in the state, as four deaths due to overdose of drugs from different parts of the state have been reported during the last three weeks.”
He said, “The situation is quite alarming as the drug mafia is spreading its network like a web; at least sixty people are reportedly involved in smuggling and distributing drugs in the state, and it has become a real challenge to combat the mafia due to the alleged nexus.”
Thakur stated, “Being the leader of the opposition, it is my duty to raise this issue as the situation is getting alarming, and on behalf of the people, I demand the chief minister should place the facts before people in this regard, especially about reports of the alleged nexus appearing in a section of the media and steps being taken by the state government to check the menace.”
Thakur has also promised to lend support to the state government’s effort to effectively fight against the drug mafia and save the young generation from drugs.
