Two women pilgrims died and 11 fallen sick were rescued after sudden snowfall in Lahaul- Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh during early morning on Thursday, while completing circumambulation of holy Drilbu Ri Kora Mountain.
As per information received at Keylong, the district headquarter of the district nearly 300 pilgrims had left for the holy ceremony. As they were circumambulating the mountain at about 4 am heavy snowfall started.
A police source said , ” Two pilgrims Dawa Doma Bhutia, from Darjeeling (West Bengal) and Keylong resident Yanzin died due to hypothermia and high altitude sickness caused by drop in oxygen level, eleven others also taken seriously sick were rescued by NDRF and police personnel and admitted at Keylong hospital”.
The Drilbu Ri Koro situated at approximately 15000 feet is considered a holy place by Buddhist disciples and pilgrims reach there by taking a steep climb of nearly 9 kms .
