After a political debate generated in the country by the caste census in Bihar, the Himachal Pradesh government led by the Congress party is going to conduct a caste census in the hill state.
As a reply to Hindutva politics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP government in the coming parliament election the Congress Working Committee (CWC) has taken a decision to conduct caste census in Congress ruled states i.e. Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Himachal.
The Census at national level held every ten years scheduled to be completed in 2020 could not be done due to COVID -19 pandemic and the Opposition parties led INDIA block is trying to use caste census as a tool to counter efforts of communal polarization by BJP.
The state government is likely to announce caste census very soon in Himachal Pradesh.
