The celebrations of Royal Challengers Bangaluru’s (RCB)  triumph in the IPL final match turned into a major tragedy as at least eleven people lost lives and scores of others injured after a stampede outside gates of  Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy stadium  on Wednesday .

The celebratory mood in Bengaluru was quickly replaced with despair as a pall of gloom cast over the city as chaotic situation was witnessed after people tried to enter the stadium to join a party being organized to hounour RCB players.

As per PTI report, “Thousands converged outside the stadium as police struggled to take control of the situation, resorting to mild use of force as well. That did little to discourage the people, many of whom could be seen pressed against the stadium’s entrance gate, desperate to get in”.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said, “There is no information on the deaths in the RCB celebrations in Bengaluru.”

According to eye-witnesses, fans thronged the venue of felicitation and visuals showed police shifting the injured and those who fell unconscious in ambulances to nearby hospitals. Visuals also showed some of those who were in an unconscious state being administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation by those nearby.

“Crowd was uncontrollable, police were finding it difficult, so we had to stop the procession,” Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said while speaking about the tragedy because of which a planned victory parade could not take place.
