Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, “The Himachal Pradesh government would approach the Supreme Court to seek direction to Punjab Government to handover 110 MW Shanan Hydro Power project to the state government before October 31.

 While  presiding over a meeting of senior officers of the energy department at Shimla on Saturday , the CM said , “ The matter of transfer of the project would also be taken up with the Government of India and Punjab Government to ensure prompt transfer of the project.”

He emphasized on the need to assert Himachal Pradesh’s rightful claims in the court of law to maximize benefits to the people of the State and stressed 110 MW Shanan Hydro Project in Joginder Nagar must be handed over to Himachal Pradesh, as the lease period of this project in favour of Punjab has expired.

The CM said, “The State Government would also expedite the matter of securing Himachal Pradesh’s legitimate rights in the BBMB, as awarded by the Supreme Court and the state government will leave no stone unturned to achieve this goal, besides giving a notice JSW Power Company for non – compliance of implementation agreement regarding 1045 MW Karcham Wangtoo Hydro Power Project.”

“To safeguard the interests of the state in the hydel sector, it has been decided to ensure royalty slabs of 12 percent, 18 percent and 30 percent in the power projects, besides  handing over of the projects to the state government after expiry of 40 years tenue and every step would be taken to strengthen the economy of the state and make the state self reliant by 2027”, he said.
