Floral tributes were paid to martyrs of Kargil War to observe 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas at Shaheed Smarak Mandi on Friday.
In a programme organized in Mandi by the Mandi District Administration and Sainik Welfare Department, a large number of family members of the martyrs paid their emotional tributes to brave soldiers, who made supreme sacrifice of their lives to defend the borders of India.
DC Mandi , Apoorv Devgan, SP, Sakshi Verma, MC Mayor Virendra Bhatt, Deputy Director of District Sainik Welfare Department Colonel Gopal Guleria, Lieutenant General Rakesh Kapoor, ex-servicemen , NCC cadets , local citizens were among those who paid floral tributes at the Shaheed Smarak .
DC Mandi Apoorv Devgan also honored brave widows of the martyrs of the Kargil war and expressed gratitude towards them and said the life and sacrifice of brave soldiers is an eternal inspiration for all.
Remembering the sacrifices, the DC said, “The saga of sacrifice of brave sons who laid down their lives to protect the country and keep the borders intact fills every Indian with pride.”
Ex-Servicemen League president Captain Kashmir Singh (retired) said, “We should always remember the soldiers, who sacrificed their lives for the country along with their brave women and family members.”
Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26 July every year to commemorate the sacrifices as many as 527 soldiers had laid down their lives ; two brave solders Capt. Vikram Batra ( posthumously ) and now Honorary Captain Sanjay Kumar from the state were given the highest gallantry award Param Vir Chakra .
Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur participated in the Shaheed Samman Samaroh organized by BJYM in Mandi on Kargil Vijay Diwas. He also honored the ex-servicemen and the families of the martyred soldiers in the ceremony.
Earlier, he also paid floral tributes at the Shaheed Smarak.
