Mausam Vigyan Kendra Shiimla has issued an orange alert of spells of heavy rainfall from June 29 to 30 for Shimla, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Solan and Sirmaur districts.
As per weather forecast issued by the Kendra,” The Southwest monsoon would favorably move to the state during the next 3 -4 days, the precipitation is likely to start from June 28 and will intensify over the next two days,”
“The upcoming spell of precipitation is likely to be accompanied by thunderstorm- lightning and gusty winds (40- 50 kmph) at isolated places in low and mid hills from June 28-30”, it said.
In view of the likely spells of heavy rainfall, the department has warned of localized flooding of roads, water logging in low-lying areas and closure of underpasses and strong winds and rain could cause some damage to vulnerable structures, kutcha houses, walls and huts. The department has advised people to avoid travel if possible and stay away from water bodies.
