
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again swept the Mandi Municipal Corporation (MC) election as its candidate won in 12 wards out of total 14 MC wards, election for which were held on May 17.
After counting of votes on Sunday, BJP candidates were declared elected in 12 wards and Congress candidate won in one ward, while one independent candidate (Congress rebel) was elected from ward no 1. The election in ward no 14 could not be held as people of the ward had boycotted the election.

The Congress candidate Narvada Mohan, wife of Rajender Mohan, has been declared elected from ward no 4 and independent candidate and a sitting Congress councilor Alka Handa, who was denied the Congress ticket this time, won the election from ward no 1 as an independent candidate.
The BJP candidates who won the election are Sarita Handa ( ward no 2), Nirmala ( ward no3) , Krishna Thakur ( ward no 5), Virender Arya( ward no 6) , Jitender Kumar ( ward no 7), Gudeep Kaur ( ward no 8), Suman ( ward no 9), Neha (ward no 10), Jitender (ward no 11), Gagan ( ward no 12) , Rajni Sharma( ward no 13 ) and Rita Kumar from ward no 15.
Former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, while thanking the people of Mandi for reposing faith in BJP once again, said, “The election for Urban Local Bodies and PRIs in the state has proved how unpopular the Congress government has become in the state; the continues neglect and discrimination of Mandi by the Congress government, was most important factor in the victory of BJP candidates and defeat of Congress.
