The Himachal Pradesh government has issued a dress code for state government employees and social media conduct for them.
In a directive issued by the Department of Personnel on March 16 to all administrative heads of the state government and district authorities, they have been instructed to implement the dress code and ensure the government employees are refrained from wearing casual attire, specifically jeans and T-shirts, while on duty or attending court proceedings.
As per guidelines issued by the department the employees must appear in appropriate, formal, clean, and modest attire characterized by sober colours, male employees are expected to wear shirts and trousers or collared shirts with pants, paired with proper footwear and for female employees the prescribed dress code includes sarees, formal suits, salwar-kameez, churidars, or kurtas with a dupatta, accompanied by appropriate footwear.
The government has explicitly discouraged party wear and has barred the use of jeans and T-shirts, stating that the appearance of staff must reflect the decorum and dignity of public service.
The fresh directive for dress code follows 2017 dress code guidelines which were generally ignored.
The state government has also issued a directive to government employees for expressing their views on social media and not to express opinion on government policies or schemes through personal accounts, and to refrain from making political or religious statements in public forums, vlogs, or other online platforms.
