The Indian Meteorological (IMD) centre, Shimla has issued an orange and a yellow alert in its weather forecast predicting heavy snowfall and rain in Himachal Pradesh for  January 27 and 28  (Tuesday and Wednesday ) for different parts of the state. 

The orange alert has been issued for Kullu, Kinnaur, Chamba and Lahaul – Spiti districts, with a few spells of heavy snowfall and moderate to heavy rain.

The yellow alert has been issued for Shimla, Solan, Kangra, Mandi, Sirmour, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Una districts  as the IMD has issued a forecast of  thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds up to 60 kilometers per hour accompanied by rain .

The rain and snow has already started in several parts of the state. Reports of fresh spell of snow in Lahaul-Spiti, and other higher reaches of the state are coming. It has also been snowing in Shimla, Manali and other tourists’ towns of Himachal. The spells of rain have also been reported from other districts.                    

The cold wave condition is predicted for a large part of the state, Tabo in Lahaul- Spiti has recorded the lowest temperature of was minus 10 degrees. .
