Executive Engineer Electric- cum-Mechanical Division of the Bhakhra Beas Management Board (BBMB), Pandoh Dam Santosh Rana has issued an alert for people living near the banks of river Beas to remain vigilant during the next few days as spillway gates of the Dam could be opened anytime due to continuously rising water Pandoh Dam due to closure of Pandoh – Baggi tunnel.

He said, “Due to continuous rising of water level in the Pandoh Dam, the spillway gates will be opened periodically due to closure of the Pandoh-Baggi tunnel for administrative reasons, the inflow of water into the reservoir is rapidly increasing, necessitating the safe release of excess water.”

He also cautioned pedestrians, fishermen, villagers, and people living in riverside areas to take precaution and avoid venturing near the water as the water level of River Beas may rise suddenly when the spillway gates are opened.

He appealed to people working on the riverbank, livestock herders, and travelers not to take any risks as the dam management is continuously monitoring the water level and will immediately open the spillway gates when required.

The Executive Engineer also requested the Deputy Commissioners of Mandi, Kangra, and Hamirpur districts to ensure necessary precautions and awareness in their respective areas.
