Several organizations have come in support of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, demanding his immediate release from police custody in Himachal Pradesh . 

Sonam Wangchuk was arrested by police at Leh after violent protests in Leh in which four people killed and over fifty injured, and  is presently lodged in Jodhpur jail. 

The Leh Apex Body has been raising the demand for a separate state for Ladakh and its inclusion in the Sixth Schedule.

Shimla collective organized a sit-in protest at the Ridge Shimla on Thursday in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. 

The activists carrying placards demanded release of Wangchuk and also urged the Central government to hold talks with the protesters and find a solution to demands being raised by them.

Save Lahual- Spiti Samiti organized a protest at the Rohtang Pass, situated at the height of 13050 feet demanding release of Sonam Wangchuk on Thursday.

The Shimla district committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) also staged a protest against the arrest of Sonam Wangchuk on Wednesday at Shimla.

Hundreds of people associated with the party gathered outside the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office in Shimla and raised slogans against the Central government, expressing their anger for Wangchuk’s arrest. 

CPM demanded unconditional withdrawal of all cases registered against the protesters and hold talks with them.
