Himachal Pradesh government has barred government school teachers and students from using mobile phones during school hours in the state.
In a notification issued by Director of Education, Ashish Kohli, all school teachers and school students will not use mobile phones during the school hours.
The Director said, “This has been done to promote meaningful teacher-student interaction and create a better academic atmosphere in the schools.”
He stated, “It has been observed that use of mobile phones is a major reason for distraction from the studies in the schools and these gadgets disrupt the teaching process creating a negative impact on them, besides affecting their academic performance.”
“The excessive use of mobile phones is also leading to anxiety, mental stress, insomnia, alienation from their families and the society, related health hazards and physical issues,” the order stated.
The department felt the use of mobile phones by teachers in schools is also a cause of distraction during teaching as many times they remain busy talking on their mobile phones and perpetual notification sound also results in distraction of mind of teachers and the students, as many times school teachers are always occupied with their mobile phones.
The government order has directed the students not to bring their mobile phones to schools and school teachers will have to deposit their mobiles in the school office or at a designated place during school hours.
All schools have been asked to make a provision to provide a landline phone facility in the schools for contacting students by their wards in case of any emergency.
The government has also entrusted all Deputy Directors of School Education for strict compliance of the orders.
