Monsoon has once become active in the state as per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Shimla and a wet spell of moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to continue in Himachal Pradesh from August 30 to September 3.
As per IMD forecast, “Heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places on August 31, September 1, 2 and September 3 and moderate rainfall is expected at a few other places.”
Heavy rainfall lashed Parwanoo and surrounding areas on Saturday resulting in closure of rail traffic on Shimla – Kalka railway track after a railway bridge between Gumman and Taksal was damaged. All trains coming to Shimla and going to Kalka have been cancelled.
Shimla experienced extensive rainfall on Sunday in the afternoon and has been covered with a thick layer of fog.
According to district-level forecasts, heavy rain is likely at one or two places in Bilaspur on September 1 and 2. Heavy rain is predicted for Chamba on September 1, while Kangra may see heavy rain at isolated locations on various days between August 31 and September 3. Mandi is likely to experience moderate to heavy rain on August 31 and heavy rain on September 1.
As per IMD bulletin strong winds blowing at a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour are likely in Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti districts from August 31 to September 3.
Isolated areas in the plains, lower hills and mid-hill regions may witness thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds from August 30 to September 5.
