
BJP leader and former Himachal Pradesh Cabinet Minister Virender Kanwar has received a threatening call on his mobile phone to pay Rs 25 lakh or face consequences.
Kanwar said, “A caller, who identified himself as Dharmender, threatened me on my mobile number and demanded a ransom of Rs 25 lakh, or he will kidnap and kill me if the demand is not met.”
Superintendent of Police, Una, Rakesh Singh, said, “The police has received a complaint from Mr Kanwar, and we are investigating the complaint; the caller had introduced himself as Dharmendra from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh, as per the complainant, but after verification from the True Caller app, the name of the caller has been identified as Irfan Khan.”
He said, “The police have handed over the complaint to the cyber security cell and are trying to nab the culprit.”
