As the heat wave in several parts of Himachal Pradesh has shattered previous records and people reeling under extreme hot weather, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), center Shimla has predicted a light to moderate rain at few places of the state, as a respite from the heat wave.
According to the IMD center, Shimla, light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated locations across the state’s plains, mid-hills, and high-altitude mountainous regions on May 22 and 23.
“The high peaks may experience light snowfall, furthermore, during the remainder of the week—up until May 26—light rain may occur at scattered locations within the mid-hill and high-altitude zones.; an ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for May 22, warning of dust storms accompanied by gusty wind ranging from 40 to 50 kilometers per hour in certain parts of the Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla districts”, said IMD in its bulletin.
Based on the extended-range forecast issued by the IMD, light rainfall is expected at one or two isolated locations within the state on a few days during the week spanning from May 29 to June 4. During this period, maximum temperatures are likely to remain above normal levels across many parts of the state.
Meanwhile, state capital Shimla, as well as Kangra, Nahan, Solan, Mandi, and Bilaspur recorded the highest May temperature since 2024, with temperatures in the hilly regions rising above normal levels.
