The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) Employees Union, Engineers and Pensioners held a large rally at Ambedkar Chowk, Shimla on Wednesday to demand Old Pension Scheme (OPS) and highlight their long pending demands.
The rally was organized on the call of the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Employees Union and received the full support of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of HPSEBL Employees, Engineers & Pensioners.
Co-Convenor of the JAC Hira Lal Verma said, “The principal demand raised during the rally was implementation of OPS for the Board Employees and all employee leaders stated that the CCS Pension Rules, 1972 were adopted by the then HPSEB in 1974 ibut despite the implementation of OPS in various departments of the State Government, HPSEBL employees have so far not been extended its benefit”.
The leaders have urged the state government to take an early decision in this regard during 2026 as assured by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
The JAC also expressed serious concern over the acute shortage of manpower in HPSEBL as approximately 11,600 posts are lying vacant in different categories in the Board resulting in an additional workload on the existing workforce and may adversely affect the smooth and efficient functioning of the power system and JAC demanded filling up of all vacant posts.
The speakers at the rally have also warned to intensify the agitation if any positive decision is not taken on their demands by the government.
The rally was addressed by Nitish Bhardwaj, President, HPSEB Employees Union, and Er. A.S. Gupta, Kuldeep Singh Kharwara, Kameshwar Dutt Sharma, Mukesh Rathi, Er. Sunil Grover and Prashant Sharma.
