Six tourists from Gujarat lost their lives and three others seriously injured in the wee hours of Monday morning when a vehicle in which they were travelling veered off the road and plunged into a gorge on Lahru- Tunnuhatti road near Kakira in Chowari sub-division of Chamba district (HP).
Superintendent of Police Chamba , V K Saklani said , “ As per preliminary investigation an Innova car carrying nine tourists from Gujarat was on its way from Dalhousie to Manali when the driver lost control over the vehicle due to strong winds and heavy rains and skidded off the road . “
The deceased in the accident have been identified by the police as Lalit Bhai Phatnani, his wife Mamta, Priyank Kanhaiya Lal, his wife Kajal and son Diyansh, all residents of Gujarat, and driver Jaswant, belonging to Joginder Nagar area of Mandi district.
The injured were referred to Dr Rajender Prasad Government Medical College Tanda for treatment .
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has expressed grief over the death of six persons in the accident and directed the district administration to provide all possible assistance to the affected families and ensure the best possible treatment to the injured.
