The Himachal Pradesh government has issued a high alert in the state after the deadly terrorist attack on tourists near Pahalgam in Jammu & Kashmir on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu directed the Himachal Pradesh Police and security agencies to remain on high alert to avert any incident in the state.
The Himachal Police and security agencies have already increased security and vigilance in the state, and special security measures are being taken on the borders of the state touching Jammu & Kashmir.
Himachal’s several hundred-kilometre border in Chamba district touches Jammu & Kashmir, and in 1998, 35 labourers were killed by terrorists in the Kalaban area of Satrundi in Chamba district.
There have been reports in the past of J&K militants sneaking into the Chamba area of Himachal from J&K to hide from the security agencies.
Director General of Police (DGP) Atul Verma held a high-level meeting at Police Headquarters Shimla to review the security in the state and discuss measures to enhance security along the borders of the state touching with J&K.
The DGP also directed police officers to remain vigilant and work in close coordination with security agencies to assess any security threat and take quick measures.
