With a spike in COVID-19 cases in Himachal Pradesh the state government has postponed Swarnim Himachal Rath Yatra scheduled to start on April 15 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of statehood.
The decision was taken during a meeting held at Shimla on Tuesday to review the COVID situation in the state. After the meeting Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said, “The decision to organize the Yatra would be taken after normalization of the situation; the government has also decided to restrict gatherings in marriage functions and funerals to fifty people.”
The CM has also directed the health department to take effective steps for enhancing bed capacity in government to meet the challenge, besides engaging private hospitals.
He said the state government is fully geared up to check the spread of the virus and the district administrations have been instructed to speed up testing and vaccination drive.
