The Himachal Pradesh State Election Commission has decided to hold election to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in the state in three phases on January 17, 19 and 21st, 2021.
With issuing of the notification for PRI elections model code of conduct has been effected in the state.
Issuing notification for the PRI elections on Monday a spokesman of the Commission said, “The nomination papers for office bearers of gram panchayats, panchayat samitis and zila parishad members shall be presented on December 31st, January 1st and 2nd, 2020 between 11 am to 3.00 pm before the respective returning officers.”
“The scrutiny of the nomination papers shall be on January 4, the candidates could withdraw their nomination papers on January 6 and polling will be held in three phases on January 17, 19 and 21st from 8 am to 4 pm,” he said.
The counting of votes for ward members, vice presidents and presidents of gram panchayats would be undertaken at gram panchayat level immediately after completion of polling, however the counting of votes of panchayat samiti and zila parishad election would be held on January 22nd at respective block headquarters from 8 am onwards and results would be declared immediately after the counting, except for the zila parishad members which would be declared on January 23rd.
All elections for PRIs in Keylong, Kaza and Pangi blocks would be held in June as the term of the members would end in June 2021.
The spokesman said, “This election programme shall also not apply to presidents of gram panchayats of Shimla district and Dharampur block of Mandi district in view of stay orders from the High Court of Himachal”.
