The Principal of Shri Lal Bahadur Shashtri Medical College (SLBSMC), Nerchowk has taken a strict action in a complaint under Anti- Ragging Act against two 2022 batch MBBS students and a junior student of 2024 batch, for making the complaint with a mala-fide intention on Monday.
The matter came to light , when a 2024 batch second year MBBS student Shubham Singh , hailing from Shimla district made a complaint to the College Authorities On December 19, 2025 , “ Accusing his seniors – Harsha and Prashant Jha , both 4th year student from batch 2022 for allegedly assaulting him in his hostel room on December 18 in the college campus .”
On receiving the complaint, the college authorities reported the matter to SHO of Balh Police station and constituted a fact finding committee headed by senior Professor of the college, Dr Rajesh Bhawani.
The report of the fact finding committee was placed before the Anti- Ragging Committee of the SLBSMC, Nerchwok on Monday.
On the basis of the report of the fact finding committee and statements of the complainant , the accused and other witnesses the Anti – Ragging Committee members found, “The accused student had confessed of assaulting the junior student and thus guilty for which they should be punished but it was also observed from the statements and findings that the junior student had made the complaint with mala-fide intention under the Anti – Ragging Act with ulterior motives.”
“It was also reported in the Anti- Ragging Committee meeting that both senior students – Harsh, a native of Rajasthan, and Prashant Jha, belonging to New Delhi, were habitual offenders and were suspended from the college earlier also.”
The Principal of SLBSMC Nerchowk Dr DK Verma said, “The College authorities have taken stern action in this incident and have suspended Harsh and Prashant Jha from the college for three months, expelled from the hostel permanently and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000, on the recommendation of Anti-Ragging Committee and report of fact finding committee to maintain discipline in the college.”
“ The complainant – Shubham Singh was also found guilty of provoking the senior students by repeatedly abusing them and making the complaint with mala-fide intention to misuse the Anti – Ragging Act for ulterior motives, has also been expelled for three months from the college , also expelled from the hostel and imposed a fine of Rs 20000, ” Dr Verma said.
