Himachal Pradesh Government has dissolved all the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in whole of the state, (except all Gram Panchayats (GPs) and Panchayat Samitis of Kelylong sub-division in Lahaul- Spiti district, GPs and Panchayat Samitis in Pangi sub-division of Chamba district), and four GPs of Kullu district, as term of all elected members of PRIs is expiring on January 31,2026.
In a notification issued by the state government, the elections to PRIs could not be held due to application of Disaster Management Act -2005 in Himachal Pradesh.
The Secretary PRIs to HP Government exercising powers conferred on him after the dissolution of the PRIs , has constituted committees to exercise the powers of three tier PRIs which will perform all functions of Gram Panchayats , Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishads, till next elections are held .
Committee for GPs will have Block Development Officers (BDOs) and Panchayat Secretary as member secretary.
The Committee for Panchayat Samiti will have the Chief Executive of the Samiti, Social Education Officer and Block Planning Officer and Panchayat Inspector / sub inspector as member secretary or officially nominated by BDOs.
Committee for Zilla Parishad will have Chief Executive Officer Zila Parishad, chairperson, District Development Officer as member and District Panchayat Officer as member secretary.
