A Supreme Court Judge, Justice Surya Kant has held conflict between man and nature as one of the main reason for frequent natural disasters in hill states including Himachal Pradesh and emphasized the scientist and other experts should suggest ways to address these phenomena.

Justice Mishra was the Chief Guest of the state level function organized by State Legal Services Authority at Mandi on Saturday and interacted with disaster affected people from Mandi and Kullu districts.

Justice Mishra said, “  “The conflict between man and the nature is having an adverse impact on the ecology due to the felling of trees, blocked water channels and construction in catchment areas which have obstructed the natural flow of water having negative effects, resulting into frequent cloud bursts and flash floods .”

He said, “I have come here to share my grief with families, who lost their family members and suffered huge losses in the natural disasters during the recent monsoon.”

Justice Mishra said, “Though governments extend help to disaster-affected people but many times it reaches to affected people after much delay and asked administration to provide the relief at the earliest.”

H also expressed concern over the rising drug addiction among the youth and sought the cooperation of villagers, elected panchayat members to share the information about drug traffickers with police to save young people from falling into trap of drug peddlers, besides seeking help of police.

He said, “All legal help and counseling should be extended to the families of serving and retired Army personnel and families categorized under the Veer Parivar Sahatya Yojana launched by the Central government.”

The Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, Justice GS Sandhawalia also emphasized the need to address the problem of drug menace and environmental degradation at priority.
