
Former Director General Police of Himachal Pradesh, ID Bhandari passed away on Tuesday in Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla.
Bhandari, a 1982 batch IPS officer was admitted to IGMC for the treatment of pneumonia but suffered a massive heart attack in the morning, said a family source.
He headed Himachal Police as its DGP from 2011 to 2012 and superannuated in 2014 and also served as DG CID and DG Vigilance.
His last rights will be performed in his ancestral village in Bilaspur district on Wednesday. He is survived by his wife and two children and lived in Shimla with his family.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri have expressed deep condolences on the demise of ID Bhandari.
In his condolence message, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said,” The outstanding services rendered by former DGP ID Bhandari will be remembered for long time and prayed for his peace and giving strength to his family for bearing the irreparable loss.”
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, expressing grief over the death, described Bhandari as a disciplined police officer who contributed a lot for strengthening the state police.
