Former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Saturday interacted with youths at three days conference of India’s International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN held at Indus Global School Mandi.

Addressing the gathering, Thakur said, “The youth leadership determines the true direction of future as the current generation is poised to provide leadership in various sectors—such as politics, governance, judiciary, administration, education, health, science, agriculture, horticulture, business, and journalism—in the years to come”.

Sharing his life experiences, he encouraged the youth to remain lifelong learners and to acquire practical skills and urged them to always possess a desire to learn; we, too, have continued to learn throughout our lives; this learning has aided our progress and brought me to the position I hold today”, he stated.”

He said, “Formal education is not everything in life; young people should also focus on learning new things and developing other skills.”

Interacting with students   Thakur said, “The success of a development scheme does not depend solely on the vision of politicians but also hinges on the alertness and integrity of administrative officials.”

During the conference, students engaged in in-depth deliberations on subjects such as public policy, diplomacy, critical thinking, and civic leadership and issues related to Himachal Pradesh like environment, preserving local languages- culture, and the challenges of entering politics without a political background.

While answering these questions, Thakur advised them to move forward with a spirit of public service and a positive outlook.

The conference saw participation from over 300 students from Himachal Pradesh and neighboring states, as well as international delegates from countries such as Russia, Iran, and Turkey.

Earlier, Padma Shri awardee Nek Ram and Purushottam Sharma and former media – coordinator to Thakur also spoke on the occasion.  

 Chairman of Indus Global School Chandan Bhatia and Principal Sonia Pawar welcomed Thakur on his arrival in the school.
