
NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan has been elected the new Vice President of India after the Election Commission on Tuesday declared him elected.
The election was held for the post on Tuesday in which as many as 452 lawmakers voted for Radhakrishnan out of total 767 votes and B Sudershan Reddy, joint candidate of the opposition representing INDIA block secured 300 votes.
The election was necessitated due to the sudden resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar from the post of the Vice President.
According to Rajya Sabha General Secretary PC Mody, a total of 767 votes were polled, out of which 752 were found valid and 15 were invalid.
Three regional parties the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) of Odisha, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) of Punjab, and the Bharat Rashtriya Samithi (BRS) of Telangana abstained from the polling as their MPs did not vote in the election.
