The torrential rains during the past 24 hours has disrupted normal life in Himachal Pradesh as several roads were blocked at many places due to landslides and gushing water from rivulets entered fields and houses . 

The Mandi district has been affected severely as the district was hit by incessant rain during the last 24 hours and river Beas, Suketi Khad and nullahas and khads overflowing posed danger to houses at many places.

Deputy Commissioner Mandi Apoorv Devgan said, “Heavy rains and landslides during the past 24 hours in Mandi district have damaged infrastructure including roads, drinking water supply schemes and electricity supply; in Mandi PWD circle a loss of Rs 23 crore has been estimated and total loss of Rs 417 crore has been assessed so far.”

He said, “The teams of PWD, Electricity Board, Jalshakati departments are working overtime to restore road, electricity and water supply.”

The traffic on Kiratpur-Manali National Highway was blocked at several places and traffic to Kullu – Manali beyond Mandi has been diverted via Kataula – Kamand road. The NHAI has deployed several JCB machines to restore traffic .

Due to water logging in Balh area water entered in fields , houses and government buildings, besides affecting road connectivity; Gaggal , Bhadyal , Behana, Ratti and Dadaur areas have been affected most as Suketi khad and local nullahs were overflowing .

Torrential rain in the Seraj area has also put locals and administration on alarm.

Mausam Vigyan Kendra Shimla has issued a yellow alert of heavy to very heavy rainfall for several districts of the state during the next three days.
