The Shimla police rescued three students of prestigious Bishop Cotton School (BCS) of Shimla from a kidnapper and arrested a former student of the schools from Kotkhai in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday.

The accused -Sumit Sood is a former student of the school, who kidnapped the students for seeking ransoms from the families of the students to make up his losses in the share market.

Police said, “Sumit Sood allegedly kidnapped them near the school while coming out from one of the gates of the school on a gun point using a revolver in his car and covered their faces with tapes and rode them to his house in Kotkhai; later he also made calls for ransom from parents of two students by using virtual number of California (US).”

All three students hailed from influential families – one cousin of Education Minister of Punjab Harjot Singh Bains, second nephew of Municipal councilor of Karnal and third great-grandson of former Banjar (Kulu) MLA Dile Ram Shabad.

The students studying in Class VI had gone for group outing from the boarding school on Saturday afternoon along with other students but after the return of the other students, three students were found missing during the counting.

The school management immediately sought help of Shimla police after which the police started tracing the movement of the students by checking video recordings of CCTV cameras at different locations and observed, though three students came out of a gate of the school but were not seen at Khalini Chowk and the police also traced a car moving in the camera at that time from the location.”

“On further investigation the police went to Kotkhai where a local youth Raunak helped the police team in tracing the accused along with three kidnapped students in the house of the accused,” the police said.

The police have recovered a revolver, mobile –sims  and the car used for kidnapping.

As per police investigation the accused had lost huge money in the share market and tried to seek ransom from their parents; being a former student of the school he knew very well the students of the school came from rich family and picked the students at random.
