President of Himalayan Niti Abhiyan and known environmentalist  Kulbushan Upmanyu has demanded a deep scientific study to know the reasons for the recent natural disasters in Himachal Pradesh.

In a video message, expressing his serious concern over the huge loss of human life and property in the state he has also demanded a separate plan of development for hill states.

He said, “It is unfortunate the recent devastating flash floods from Chamba to Sirmaur have created havoc, 43 lives have been lost and huge damage to private and government property has been reported; Janjehli area in Mandi district is worst affected . “

Upmanyu said, “Since devastation has been reported with the onset of monsoon in the state, when restoration work related to last flash folds is still pending, there is an urgent need to find out reasons behind the phenomena”.

He said, “The state government should conduct a sciatica study if climate change, lapse in development models or unscientific approach in building infrastructure being adopted by contractors and companies or some other reason is leading to such huge destruction.”

The environmentalist has also urged the Central government to have a specific development model for the hill states based on a scientific study.
