
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has ordered an investigation into the reports of wooden logs found floating in flash floods near River Parvati in Kullu district and wood accumulated in Pandoh Dam in Mandi district, after flash floods last week.
Handing over the investigation to state criminal investigation department (CID) on Monday in Shimla, the CM said, “The wooden logs in huge quantity were seen accumulated in the Pandoh dam recently, which reportedly swept away from the hilly region of Kullu district after the flash floods, last week.”
A spokesperson of the state government said, “The state government has taken serious cognizance of the matter and ordered an inquiry to find out reasons for recovery of a large quantity of wood under the direction of the CM.”
He said , “ The first and foremost reaction to the incidents of cloudbursts and flash floods was to save the life of people and provide immediate relief to them wherein effective measures were underway to bring back normalcy in the flood hit regions”.
“The videos and photographs of wood flushing down with the river water and later were found floating in the Pandoh dam, went viral on few media platforms, raising public concern and prompting calls for investigation’ while the government and the administration was busy in helping people, the BJP raised hue and cry on the issue without showing any sensitivity and concern for the affected people,” the spokesman added.
