
Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan said, “Heavy rainfall and cloud bursts followed by devastating flash floods at several places in Mandi district have taken a heavy toll on human life, government and private property on Jun 30, but district administration in coordination with all departments. Is working overtime to restore vital road and communication links , besides local administration is trying to reach all affected areas including remote places to provide ration, drinking water and other things.”
Talking to media persons at Mandi on Thursday, the DC said, “Thirteen people lost life, 29 are still missing and 154 trapped persons have been evacuated to safer places.”
“As many 40 houses have been destroyed and nearly 400 houses and 104 cowsheds have been damaged, several main roads, 14 bridges have collapsed, many drinking water schemes have been destroyed and electricity supply and communication links are snapped,” he stated.
“An initial loss of Rs 115 crore to roads, drinking water, electricity system and bridges etc have been assessed till now and the district administration in coordination with local administration and other departments, is making every effort to provide relief material and we have engaged mules to distribute ration in the areas, where road links have been washed away”, he added.
DC said, “Connectivity has been restored top Bagsaid and efforts are being made to open road link to Janjehli from Karsog side as main road to Janjehli is badly damaged, money is being disbursed in Thunag area as Banks have become no-functional and our biggest challenge to search for missing persons and we have deployed NDRF teams, a chopper for search operation and several teams of several departments are working to restore vital links.”
