The Mandi district administration has withdrawn the Army and Indo – Tibetan Border Police teams deployed for relief and rescue operations in Seraj areas of Mandi district after nearly two weeks.
The district administration had deployed the Army and ITBP teams along with NDRF and SDRF teams to help the victims in Seraj areas after devastating flash floods in the area on the night of June 30, in which 15 people had lost their lives and 27 people are still missing.
With hundreds of people left without shelters as their houses were destroyed or damaged and communication links damaged , the Army and ITBP units played a very crucial role in reaching areas cut off with roads and helping them in providing important support .
As the administration has restored road connectivity on major link road and hopes of finding missing people alive has also almost diminished. The NDRF and SDRF teams are still involved in relief and rescue operations.
Meanwhile the state government has estimated the total losses from the recent disaster to Rs 883, 15 crore.
As per the records of the Revenue Department, as many as 64 persons have lost their lives during the ongoing monsoon season as a result of flash floods.
As many as 202 roads have been damaged, the highest number 140 being in Mandi district.
