
With the recovery of three more bodies of workers washed away in Wednesday’s flash floods in Manuni Khad near Khaniyara in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, the death toll has reached 5 as two bodies were recovered last night, while three workers are still missing.
Three bodies were recovered on Thursday by the SDRF teams, and a person – Lovely, belonging to Chamba , who had fled towards the nearby forest after the flood, was also brought back safely by a SDRF team .
Flash floods in Manuni Khad, caused by a cloudburst near Khanyara village on Wednesday evening, had swept away workers deployed in the Indira Priyadarshini Hydroelectric Project.
Over 170 workers were safely evacuated and sheltered by the local administration.
The police said, “Four bodies have been identified as Chain Singh (20) son of Mulkh Raj, village Kumari, district Doda in Jammu and Kashmir, Aditya Thakur son of Shiv Kumar resident of Rakh, district Chamba, Pradeep Verma (35) son of Ramkant Verma and Chandan son of Pradeep, both residents of Sohanpur district Deoria (UP.”
Deputy Commissioner Kangra Hem Raj Bairwa has ordered an inquiry in the incident by SDM Dharamshala.
DC said, “The inquiry would also investigate if the incident was a natural disaster or violation by the construction company and also investigate allegations of violation of norms and rules by Priyadarshini company engaged in construction of a hydroelectric project” .
