Six people are feared dead and around 40 devotees believed to be trapped after the roof of an under-construction sabha mandap ( slab) collapsed at the Yashwadi Maruti Temple in Maharashtra’s Parbhani district on Saturday,.
According to initial information, the roof of the under-construction sabha mandap located in front of the temple suddenly collapsed while a large number of devotees were present at the premises.
As Saturday witnessed heavy footfall at the temple, the collapse triggered panic and chaos across the area. Preliminary reports suggest that several devotees sustained serious injuries in the accident. However, the district administration has not yet officially confirmed the number of fatalities or injuries.
Around 30 to 40 devotees are reportedly trapped under the debris, and rescue teams are carrying out an operation to pull them out.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident. In a post shared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), he said, “The loss of lives due to the collapse of a wall in Parbhani, Maharashtra, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones in this mishap. May the injured recover at the earliest.”
