Himachal Pradesh government has given additional charge of Chief Secretary to the state government to (1988) batch IAS officer Sanjay Gupta .
The state government had transferred Sanjay Gupta from the post of Chairman of HP State Electricity Board Limited and elevated him to the rank of Chief Secretary after retirement of Prabodh Saxena, who has now been appointed HPSEBL Chairman.
HP government had appointed him as Additional Chief Secretary Town and Country Planning and Housing; he was also given the rank, status and responsibility equivalent to the post of Chief Secretary to HP government and was to work under the administrative control of the Chief Minister, on September 30.
However, the notification issued by the state government on October 1, Sanjay Gupta has been given additional charge of Chief Secretary to HP government.
The move has surprised many as though the state government has elevated his status to Chief Secretary but he has been given additional charge of Chief Secretary, as he being senior most IAS officer was a strong contender for the post of CS.
Another claimant to the post 1993 batch IAS officer KK Pant has been designated as Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue, Forest, Home and Vigilance.
1994 batch IAS officer Onkar Chand Sharma, Additional CS, Tribal Development has been given additional charge of Chairman –cum- Managing Director of Ropeway and Rapid Transport System Development Corporation.
