Himachal’s Nishad Kumar has brought laurels not only for the state but also for the country by winning a gold medal in High Jump in the Asia Para Athletics Championships on Friday in New Delhi.

 Nishad hailing from Una district, runner-up in the high jump T47 at the Tokyo and Paris Paralympics and the last two World championships in 2023 and 2024 looked assured every time he took off and had little trouble clearing all the pre-set marks in his first attempt itself by jumping 2.06 meters in his first jump.  

Reacting to his achievement, he said, “My Gold Medal is dedicated to youths and sportsmen of the state and India”.

His win was celebrated by his well wishers with his family members in his village in Una district.

PM Modi and CM Sukhu have congratulated Nishad Kumar for his achievement.
