As the health of Dharampur Congress MLA Chander Shekhar , sitting on hunger strike for the past six day, has started falling fast, concerned Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has initiated talks at the state government level.
The lone Congress MLA from Mandi district, Chander Shekhar set on the hunger strike at Awahdevi Chowk on Monday last, against authorities of Ministry of Transport and Road Highways (MORTH) undertaking four-lane widening of Mandi- Jalandhar National Highway no 3, alleging irregularities in construction and ‘ destruction of environment and ecology of state’ .
The MLA has alleged irregularities in the construction of the Highway by companies engaged by the MORTH authorities.
The MLA said, “The villagers are in danger as the construction companies are doing the work at their own convenience ignoring public demands and environmental issues; the work is going at snail’ pace and locals are suffering.”
He also demanded intervention of the Union Minister of MORTH and immediate solution to the grievances of local people.
He said , “ Though MORTH authorities had come to the fasting site but I don’t trust them as people who have done gross destruction they can’t be trusted for reconstruction work and now the CM is handling the matter with the MORTH authorities at the highest level.””
Since the vitals of the MLA have started showing concern, the Chief Minister is reportedly intervening directly.

In view of the present flood crisis in Himachal mostly caused by unscientific highway constitution and sand mining at various places that needs a serious revisiting of the government policies failing which the state will face bigger environment issues in times to come . As Mr Chandra Shekhar (MLA) must be supported to save environment and the interests of the affected public.
