Himachal Pradesh government has announced to keep all government and private schools and colleges closed till September 7 in the state, to ensure safety and security of students and staff in the wake of continuing heavy rain.
Issuing a notification on Wednesday, Secretary Education Rakesh Kanwar said , “Where as the entire state is witnessing heavy to very heavy insistent rain the Himachal Pradesh government has decided to keep all government and private schools, colleges including DIETs in the state closed , till September 7.”
As per the notification, “The decision has been taken amid reports of widespread landslides, falling trees, blocked roads, power outages, disrupted drinking water supply, and significant damage to public infrastructure across the state.
The government has also cited the ongoing inclement weather likelihood of further such incidents as key reasons for the preventive measure
The state government has also exempted the teaching and administrative staff from physically attending the schools and colleges during this period.
However, institutions have been directed to continue academic activities through online classes wherever possible.
All heads of institutions, including principals and headmasters, have been instructed to remain vigilant and take necessary steps to safeguard school property and other infrastructure .
