The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) made its first arrest in the death of Chief Engineer Vimal Negi case by arresting ASI Pankaj Kumar from his native village near Bilaspur on Sunday.
The investigating agency had registered a case in the death of Chief Engineer Vimal Negi, working with Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) , who had died a few months back and his body was found in Govind Sagar Lake near Bilaspur.
The death of Negi had led to strong protest in Shimla as his wife Kiran Negi had accused certain officer of the HPPCL for allegedly “ building undue pressure on her husband and humiliating him in the office and demanded arrest of Managing Director Harikesh Meena, Director ( electricity Des Raj and others, who are currently on bail.
Shimla police had registered a case in the death of Negi and a Special Investigating Team (SIT) was constituted headed by SP Shimla, ASI Pankaj Kumar was a part of the SIT and had reportedly recovered a pen drive along with body of Vimal Negi and later formatted it.
After registering the case nearly five months back the CBI team has arrested ASI Pankaj Kumar.
His arrest could prove crucial in the case since the pen drive is an important piece of evidence in the investigation.
