
The Mandi district administration has decided to close all education institutions in Mandi district in view of incessant rainfall in the district on Tuesday (August 26).
District Magistrate-cum-Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority, Mandi, Apoorv Devgan in an order issued on Tuesday said, “Mandi district is receiving continuous rainfall during this monsoon season, resulting in saturation of soil, frequent incidents of landslides, and flash floods in low-lying areas and deterioration in the condition of roads”.
He said, “India Meteorological Department, Shimla has issued a red alert forecasting heavy to very heavy rain on August 25 and 26 in isolated places of Mandi, which is likely to worsen the situation, disrupting normal life and increasing the potential danger of disaster-related incidents.”
DC said, “As per the recommendations sought from the concerned Sub-Divisional Officers (Civil), the situation is not good since last night, raising water level in rivers and nullahs, damaging roads and posing potential danger to safety of students.”
“In view of this, exercising the powers conferred under Section 30, Sub-section (v) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, District Magistrate Apurv Devgan has issued orders to close all Government/Private Educational Institutions, ITIs, Vocational Institutes, District Institutes of Education Training (DIETs) and Anganwadis (except residential colleges/universities i.e. IIT Mandi and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College/Hospital and any other medical education institution) in District Mandi on August 26, 2025 as a precautionary measure”, the order declared .
Meanwhile , the Larji Dam authorities have been notified to release 2000 cumecs of water from Larji Dam from 06:45pm today (25.08.2025) due to increased water flow and rising PPM. The general public, tourists, workers etc, have been requested to keep a safe distance from the banks of Beas River.
The Chandigarh – Manali National Highway no 3 remained blocked for the second day on Tuesday due to landslide near Pandoh and alternative route via Kamand also was blocked.
