The agitated people of Thunag area gheraoed the vehicle of Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi at Thunag rest house on Friday to protest the state government’s move to shift Horticulture University center from Thunag.
The protesters assembled at the rest house and tried to stop the official vehicle of the minister, raising slogans to oppose the reported move of the state government to shift the centre from Thunag to Sunder Nagar. The police personnel and security staff later cleared the path of the minister.
The state government had recently decided to hold classes of the students of the horticulture university centre from Thunag to Sunder Nagar in the wake of damage to the center after the flash floods.
The minister said, “I was on visit of the flood affected area top know the grievances of the people and to review the relief and rehabilitation measures; a few people submitted a memorandum to me urging not the shift the university center from Thunag, I told them I shall place it before the state government as the decision will be taken at the state government level in this regard.”
