
At least five persons have died and 15 are still missing in flash floods in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, while NDRF, SDRF and police teams have rescued 132 persons trapped from different places of the district during the past twenty four hours.
Nine members of two families were washed away in flash floods in Bada village in Siyanj area of Gohar Sub division of Mandi district, when two houses collapsed after flash floods at about 2 pm. Two bodies have been recovered, others are missing .
One person died in Parwara/ Talwara village under Gohar sub division while 2 persons of a family are still missing. A baby girl was rescued by a rescue team.
One body was recovered and four persons are still missing in Karsog sub division in the flash floods which hit Negli Pul area near purana bazaar Karsog at about 12 pm on Monday night.
Deputy Commissioner Mandi Apoorav Devgan said, “One hundred thirty two persons trapped at different places were rescued by NDRF, SDRF and police teams after the flash floods and many persons living near nullahs and rivers have been evacuated to safer places.”
Normal life in Mandi district was affected badly due to road blocks at many places; Kiratpur –Manali National Highway was blocked by landslides at a few places. Traffic on Mandi – Kullu road also remained suspended.
The district administration had closed all schools in Mandi district and evacuated people from Pandoh bazaar as water level in Jiuni khad and river Beas rose to danger levels near Pandoh, after all spill-way gates of the Pandoh dam were opened on Tuesday to release excess water .
The Indian Meteorological Department, Shimla has predicted moderate flash floods in several parts of the state and issued an orange alert of heavy rain for Shimla, Kangra, Mandi Una, Solan and Sirmaur districts for the next 24 hours.
