The Himachal Pradesh High Court has rejected a plea of Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan appealing the court to dismiss an election petition filed by senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, challenging his election to Rajya Sabha on February 27 from Himachal Pradesh.

Singhvi, who was Congress candidate for the Rajya Sabha Election from Himachal, had lost the election at the hands of BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan by a lottery, after the both candidates polled equal 34 votes each in the house of 68.

The Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi has challenged the election in the High Court disputing the procedure of declaring the winner through a lottery.

Mahajan had filed an appeal in the High Court to dismiss the petition of Abhishek Manu Singhvi, through his counsel Vikrant Thakur, who argued in the court that Singhvi’s petition was not valid.

However, the court declined to accept this argument, allowing Singhvi’s challenge to proceed and directed Harsh Mahajan to file his reply in  Singhvi’s petition within three weeks.
