The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the release of News Click founder Prabir Purkayastha terming his arrest as illegal by the Delhi police and his subsequent remand in a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
A Supreme Court Bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice Sandeep Mehta held that his arrest and the subsequent remand orders were vitiated since a copy of the remand application was not provided to Purkayastha or his counsel before passing the October 4, 2023 remand order.
The top court ordered Purkayasatha’s release on furnishing the bail bonds to the satisfaction of the trial court.
Purkayastha has been in custody under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, since October 3 2023 following his arrest by the Special Cell of the Delhi police.

Congratulations to Prabir Purkayasth for being released from jail in a false case. But the people need to file a case against the Delhi police for jailing him illegally so as to teach lesson to the police for blindly toeing biased HM .
