(Independent MLAs tendering resignation in Shimla)

March 22, 2024,

In a surprise move, three Independent MLAs elected during the 2022 Himachal Pradesh Assembly Elections, have resigned from the membership of Vidhan Sabha.

The three MLAS- Hoshiayar Singh elected from Dehra constituency, KL Thakur elected from Nalagarh and Ashish Sharma elected from Hamiprur constituency, accompanied by the leader of opposition Jai Ram Thakur, tendered their resignation to secretary of Himachal Vidhan Sabha at Shimla on Friday.

The three MLAs supporting the Congress government had ditched it during the Rajya Sabha election and supported BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan along with six Congress rebel MLAs leading to defeat of Congress Rajya Sabha candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi on February 27.

Their resignations would lead to by-polls in three more Assembly constituencies along with by-polls in six constituencies and Lok Sabha election already announced by the Election Commission of India.

While tendering resignations, the three MLAs, “Accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for discriminating against their Assembly constituencies; no pressure has been wielded on us and we have full faith in the leadership of PM Narendra Modi,” they said.

Denying the charges the CM said, “The state government has been carrying out uniform development in every part of the state.”

The three MLAs and six Congress rebel MLAs escorted by BJP leaders under strong security cover, have been keeping away from Himachal Pradesh after the Rajya Sabha election and travelling in choppers to Chandigarh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and New Delhi.

All of them had reportedly met the BJP leadership in New Delhi a few days back and there is speculation six Congress rebels may also join BJP any time.
