The engineers of Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), Pandoh Dam, have issued an alert for residents of Mandi, Hamirpur and Kangra districts, residing near Beas river to remain vigilant due to release of water from the Pandoh Dam.
In a press release, issuing the alert they stated
“Due to snow melting and rainfall in the catchment area of Beas river, approximately 4000 cusec water may be released , so downstream water level and discharge may rise suddenly”.
” All persons residing or working in the downstream areas of the dam are advised to remain alert and avoid going near the river banks or low-lying areas.”
Issuing instructions for the residents and tourists, they said,” Do not venture near the
banks of Beas River or into the riverbed for any activity, including sightseeing and photography etc.”
” Contractors and workers engagged in construction activity have also been advised to remove thier machinery in the riverbed immediately and move equipment to higher ground to avoid damage or loss.”
“The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) engineers are continuously monitoring the situation. Further updates will be issued if discharge volumes increase,” they said.
