Sardar Patel University (SPU) Mandi celebrated its Fourth Foundation Day at its Mandi campus on Wednesday.

Padmashiri Hariman Sharma, popularly known as the Apple Man of Himachal was the chief guest of the function while SPU Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof. Lalit Kumar Awasthi, attended the function as the Guest of Honour.

Addressing on the occasion Hariman Sharma appreciated the university’s role in providing accessible higher education in the central region of Himachal Pradesh. He lauded the visionary leadership of the Vice Chancellor in introducing new courses, strengthening academic infrastructure, and creating employment opportunities through efforts to fill vacant posts.

He also exhorted students to embrace perseverance, innovation and practical learning beyond textbooks and emphasized the need of simplicity, honesty, hard work as the key to success and contributes meaningfully to society and in nation-building.

Presenting the annual report of SPU, Vice Chancellor Prof. Awasthi highlighted the university’s progress since its establishment on April 1, 2022 and said, “Foundation day symbolizes not only a date, but a celebration of the institution’s journey, achievements, and future aspirations.”

He said, “The University is committed to providing quality, inclusive, and value-based education and is currently offering undergraduate, 10 postgraduate programmes and Ph.D. in six disciplines”.

Highlighting achievements, Prof Awasthi said, “The University has secured research projects worth over Rs 2.30 crore, published more than 25 research papers, authored 8 books, and registered a patent. The university has also organized international conferences, national seminars, workshops, and guest lectures.”

Several students were awarded certificates for their achievements.

A colourful cultural programme was presented by the students on the occasion.
